Singapore offers visitors the exotic flavors of Asia in manageable chunks. Worth a lot more time than just a short stopover on the way to Australia or New Zealand, Singapore is an exciting place to visit in its own right. Sentosa boutique hotels on a small island resort offer tranquil places to stay if even the gentle hustle and bustle of Singapore gets too much.
The country is considered to have the best quality of life anywhere in Asia and ranks highly overall in the world. Spending time here, it's easy to see why. There's none of the crazy chaos which is part of many other parts of the continent and plenty of modern, dynamic developments mixed in with the traditional buildings of the past.
The island of Sentosa is just 500m off the coast of the main island of Singapore and is easily reached by public transport, by foot on a new boardwalk or, more dramatically, by cable car from Mount Faber, a 344 feet hill in Singapore. There are three beaches here stretching for nearly two miles for those seeking some sun, sand and seaside. Sentosa boutique hotels mean you can stay on the island itself and be close to the wide variety of attractions on offer.
One of the main attractions on Sentosa is the Universal Studios theme park. It features 24 rides and attractions themed around favorite movies such as Shrek, Jurassic Park and Madagascar and is sure to thrill the whole family. The Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom is home to around 1500 butterflies, fluttering around in tropical gardens. The brave can also handle giant beetles, scorpions and other insects.
Singapore's tallest observation tower is on Sentosa and allows you travel 400 ft up to get some stunning views of the islands and also Malaysia and even Indonesia on clear days. You can also play golf at the Sentosa Golf Club which has two courses and is home to the Singapore Open and the Asian Tour.
Changi International Airport is around 12 miles from the center and there are plenty of direct and indirect flights here from London. If you want to arrive or depart in style then take the Eastern and Oriental Express train which journeys the 1213 miles, 42 hour, route between Singapore and Bangkok in Thailand.
